It’s the day after full moon and whilst everyone else is having a well earned day off, our Divemaster Trainees are up and about, ready to take on todays challenges. Seeing as there are no guests to let them loose on, it’s a workshop today followed by a skills circuit (hopefully they will all get passing scores!).
From the surface there’s not much to see, but I’m sure they are doing a great job…well, no one has hit the surface yet so that is a good start if nothing else. The comedy of the day is definitely the skin diving skill, taught to all PADI Open Water students. Why teach people to ‘duck dive’ when they are learning to dive with scuba equipment? The most common use is actually to retrieve dropped items from shallow water without the need to kit up! (We’re sure there is a better reason, but we’re talking from experience!) . 
This is probably the only reason Dave has agreed to give up his day off, as he gets to play at student. And when we say play, it means he gathers together all the mistakes he’s seen in 15 years of teaching and put them into one very funny diving lesson. With so much experience to draw on, Dre has trouble maintaining a straight face when faced with Dave, a fully inflated BCD and an attempted duck dive. For Jet he manages to forget how to fin, resulting in more of a ‘bob’ than a dive and Caroline is treated to the classic snorkel inhale under water.
However they maintain their cool, all 3 are signed off as meeting, and exceeding, the required standards. Well done!
